U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham Earmarks $112,000 for CHW Trainings in South Carolina
Thanks to the support of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, the Center for Community Health Alignment (CCHA) will soon receive $112,000 in federal funding to offer scholarships and support to interested CHWs in the Palmetto State. Passed in the latest fiscal year 2024 federal budget, the funding will work to grow the CHW workforce in South Carolina and support CCHA’s efforts to provide additional trainings around substance use disorder and risk reduction.
CCHA’s Julie Smithwick and Andrea Heyward had the pleasure of meeting with both Senator Graham and Senator Tim Scott’s staff in Washington last year during the National Association of Community Health Workers (NACHW) CHW Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill held in collaboration with Partners in Health. Advocacy, taking many forms, is part of the work of a CHW. Sometimes engaging in advocacy means contacting your local, state, and national elected officials to ask them to expand the workforce in your state. Together we work to create a healthier nation.
