Certified Community Health Workers must recertify every two years!
After all of your CEUs have been submitted and approved, you may apply for Recertification.
South Carolina CHW Recertification & CEU Requirements
To maintain your certification as a South Carolina Community Health Worker (CHW), you must complete and submit Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within your certification period.
1. Certification Timeline
- Your certification is valid for 2 years from your Core Competency Certification date
- All CEUs must be earned AND submitted within this 2-year period before your certification expires

- Of those:
- At least 12 must be CHW CEUs
- The remaining hours can be Regular CEUs and/or Service CEUs

4. Regular CEUs
Regular CEUs include general professional development or health-related trainings that support your role as a CHW but are not CHW-specific.
