National Community Health Worker Awareness Week | The National Association of Community Health Workers

Reports show that nearly a third of Americans lack access to essential primary care due to economic, social, and geographic barriers. That leaves nearly 100 million Americans vulnerable to preventable chronic diseases and emerging health threats.

Community Health Workers – or CHWs – play a crucial role in bridging these gaps by providing services in the communities they serve. But their hard work and the importance of community partnerships and allies often flies under the radar for the rest of us.

That is, until now. The U.S. government is officially recognizing this week as National Community Health Worker Awareness Week. And Denise Octavia Smith, Executive Director of the National Association of Community Health Workersjoins us to share what this week means and how we can help.
