CHW Name Child Passenger Safety Advocate of the Year

The 2024 Child Passenger Safety Summit was held in Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday, September 12, 2024. This is an annual summit that takes place as a "kick-off" for Child Passenger Safety Week and also to celebrate the Child Passenger Safety Technicians, Instructors, and Advocates who work diligently to reduce the number of injuries, disabilities, and deaths of children in motor vehicle crashes.

This year, Sumter Community Health Worker, Resource Navigator, and Nonprofit Administrator, Syntrell Thompson was named Child Passenger Safety Advocate of the Year. Syntrell has spent countless hours in communities across the state and can always be found with handouts on the importance to child passenger safety, along with a genuine smile.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) and other state agencies participate in Child Passenger Safety Week to raise awareness of child passenger safety. This year's Child Passenger Safety Week will take place from September 15–21, 2024, with National Seat Check Saturday on September 21.

During Child Passenger Safety Week, there are many events across the state that offer resources and advice to parents and caregivers to ensure children ride safely. These events include car seat checks and safety events where certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians are available to help with car seat installations and answer questions.
