Advanced Motivational Interviewing
The goal of this course is to provide Community Health Workers with a space to practice and improve motivational skills (MI) through roleplay.
This training will offer CHWs an opportunity to practice:
1) coding sessions for effective use of OARS
2) ‘defusing discord’
3) using OARS in a role play
4) crafting complex reflections

Live Zoom session: 2-4pm ET on July 18, 2024

The course consists of four components:

Prerequisite (1 hour): How do I Help my Clients Make Changes to Improve Their Health? An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing for CHWs. This prerequisite offers 1 hour of Texas DSHS-certified CHW CEUs.

Pre-Work (1.5 hours): Watch videos and answer questions to prepare for the live session on Zoom. Both the prerequisite and pre-work must be completed before attending the live session.

Live session (2 hours): This interactive Zoom session will allow participants will practice their skills and discuss how MI could work in their work.

Post-Work (.5 hour): Answer questions about what you learned and complete an evaluation.
After successfully completing all components of the course (prerequisite, pre-work, live session, and post-work - including the evaluation), learners may receive 4 hours of Texas DSHS-certified CHW CEUs in addition to the 1 hour they receive from the prerequisite.
