The final CHW Grandfathering/Grandmothering review course and exam will be offered Oct 3 and 4, 2019 from 9-5 at Midlands Tech, and will be facilitated by Julie Smithwick, Director of the USC Arnold School of Public Health Community Health Worker Institute. In order to apply for this course, interested CHWs must prove that they have worked in a CHW role for 3 years full-time, or the equivalent of 3 full-time years. Interested CHWs should send both the following to Micah Norman at by September 20, 2019:

Your resume/CV AND
Letters from each employer (or volunteer supervisor) where you’ve worked or volunteered as a CHW that clearly state your role or scope as a CHW (what did you do in that role), whether you worked full-time or part-time, and the exact dates you worked for each organization.

If you need more clarity on the CHW scope of practice, please see page 22 of this document:

Once accepted, the course will cost $400 which includes the cost of the exam.

If you do not qualify for the grandparenting process, and are interested in being a certified CHW in SC, you will need to take the full CHW course. More details about where/how to take those will be available in the coming months.
